Our School

Horsham College with a student population of just over 1,000 students (Years 7 to 12) is the only government secondary school provider servicing the City of Horsham and immediate surrounding rural area. We are centrally located in the Wimmera and nestled next to the Grampians National Park and the famous Mount Arapiles. Melbourne is 300 kilometres to the south-east and Adelaide is 450 kilometres to the north-west.

The City of Horsham has a population of nearly 14,000 people. Including the immediate surrounding area there are approximately 18,000 people. The municipality is the retail, business and service centre of the Wimmera.

Agriculture forms a significant component of the total land use patterns in the Wimmera. The dominant agricultural activity, in terms of both land area and value of production, is broadacre cropping. There are a number of State and National Parks nearby and several lakes in the district are used extensively for recreation. Information about the Wimmera Region is available at the Victorian Department of Primary Industry website.

Locally, the Wimmera Development Association (WDA) is the peak economic development organisation for the Wimmera Southern-Mallee region and their role is to support and further develop existing local businesses, and promote economic development opportunities to investors within and outside the region.

Further information about the Wimmera can be found at Tourism Victoria’s website.

A searchable online map of Horsham can be found on the Google Maps website.

Our students come primarily from the primary schools located in the City of Horsham and immediate environs. Students attending the small primary schools located in Laharum to the south and Natimuk to the west also feed into our College.

The school has a long history of successful achievement in all areas of learning and in a range of extracurricular activities including sports, music, debating, public speaking and drama. A strength of the College is the breadth and depth of the teaching and learning programs delivered. These are based on the pursuit of personal excellence underpinned by a key principle in seeking to provide as many opportunities and pathways that cater to the full range of our students needs and aspirations.

Our current Horsham College Fact Sheet (pdf) and College Profile provide some further useful background information and data regarding our College. For more detailed background information please refer to the various other pages on our website.
