Year 11

Students at Year 11 level are able to begin tailoring their course to their individual needs by choosing from the wide range of VCE units offered at the College and if necessary further VCE units offered through Distance Education.

VCAL provides an excellent alternative pathway for students who wish to gain more immediate entry to the workforce usually through traineeships and apprenticeships rather than focusing on gaining university entry. The VCAL program with its workplace focus provides an opportunity for students to complete secondary schooling in a more practical way than is possible in VCE units.

The VET program enables students to gain an introduction into trade areas whilst continuing their remaining VCE subjects.

School based apprenticeships enable students to attend work two days each week and gain credit towards an apprenticeship. These have been hugely successful with the majority of these students finding that their employer moves them to full time apprenticeships within the course of the program.

Part time enrolment is organised where necessary to enable students to maintain their links with the school and to make a transition back to full time schooling if their schooling has been interrupted.

Students have the opportunity to enhance their program by taking VCE Units 3/4.

Work experience is encouraged particularly for students who are wishing to gain local employment and who are not in VCAL and hence are not gaining work experience through that program.

Specific programs run for Year 11 students include sessions on safe partying by Sonya Karras - the Whole New World program and on cyber bullying from the Horsham Police. Student support is provided by the Wellbeing Coordinator, Koorie Unit, Year Level Team Leader and Learning Advisors, Assistant Principal, and School Support Services.
