AFL Academy

The AFL Academy Program will be new to Horsham College in 2021 and is an exciting addition to our SEALP and Peak Performance select entry programs. It is open to all students in years 7-12 who have a passion for Australian Rules Football.
The vision of the Sports Academy is to provide specialist sports coaching, together with leadership and personal development activities to maximise the development of the whole student, whilst creating an educational pathway from years 7-12.
The Academy also aims to stimulate student contributions to their learning and the desire to stay at Horsham College as a positive College community member.


  • Develop skills, knowledge and understanding of Australian Rules Football
  • Promote and enhance self-development, leadership, self-discipline, goal setting & time management through team participation and other programs
  • Exposure to high performance strength and conditioning programs and the latest in fitness techniques
  • Provide clear senior school pathways in the sporting field including VCE, VCAL and VET sport and recreation certificates.

  • Yr 7/8 Core Health & PE with AFL focus
  • Yr 9/10 Elective specialised AFL subject
  • Subject content specific to Australian Rules Football such as game strategy, diet, goal setting, injury prevention training methods, meditation and mindfulness.
  • VCE & VCAL subjects and pathways
  • Sport & Recreation VET Certificates
  • Sport specific fitness testing and strength & conditioning
  • Tactical strategy, skill and games analysis

Yr 11/12 Boys & Girls

  • SSV Premier League

Yr 7-10

  • SSV Junior and Intermediate competitions


  • Admission to the program is not automatic – Select Entry of students will follow an application process
