Learning Area

There are eight Learning Areas at Horsham College.  In Year 7, 8 and 9, Humanities and Science are generalised and in Year 10, they branch in to electives (Science: Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Psychology and Physics; Humanities: History, Geography, and Legal & Economics.) Below are the composite Learning Areas:

• LOTE: German and Spanish
• The Arts: Music, Art, Visual Communications, Media, Drama, Theatre Studies and Dance
• Technology: Wood Work, Home Economics, Systems & Engineering, Vehicle/Automotive Technology, Metal Work, and Textiles.

Year 7 – 10

The curriculum for Years 7 – 10 is based on the Victorian Curriculum.  The timetable is structured on a weekly basis, with 50 minute periods.  The breakdown of the weekly cycle is as follows:

*      SEALP Students must select either Spanish or German in Year 8 & 9. LOTE is a full year commitment.

**    Students must select a minimum of one of these for one semester. Careers and Health are in the

        same line, but taught by different teachers.

***  Students may select the remaining electives from any of these or the other semester long subjects.

Year 11 and 12

The curriculum for Years 11 and 12 is based on the Study Designs for the relevant VCE and VCAL subjects.

*     English is the only compulsory subject; students then select their subjects from the other Learning

       Areas.

**   Students select either an Art or a Technology
