Horsham College has an increasing number of enrolments of international students and consequently has a strong commitment to provide support to students who have English as an Additional Language (EAL) other than their native language/s.

Julie Marra is experienced in working with EAL students over a number of years and assists them to acquire and improve English language skills so they can fully participate in mainstream classes and have the opportunity to excel in their studies. Julie conducts small classes so that English language difficulties can be readily identified and addressed in a supportive and collaborative environment. There is a focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing. Individual support can be provided where necessary, including ‘in-class’ support for some students where appropriate, particularly at Senior levels.

Topics studied in EAL classes also address Australian cultural practices, social protocols and administrative expectations. Students are encouraged to share information about their own country with peers. This is a valuable learning experience for all Horsham College students and promotes understanding and acceptance of different cultural practices.
